Introduction to Density

Mass depends on how much material you have. Weight depends on mass and gravity, too. Density, however, is independent of both of these. Regardless of sample size or gravity, density is defined as the ratio of mass and the volume it occupies.

Density can be expressed by the formula D=M/V where D is density, M is mass, and V is the volume it occupies. This tutorial will show how to use the basic formula to use any two of these to solve for the third.

  • Solve for density: D = M/V
  • Solve for mass: M = DV
  • Solve for volume: V = M/D
